REVIEW: Four Points Ventura Harbor

Our one-night stay at the Four Points Ventura Harbor was more of a necessity than anything else. Sarah and I were dying to try out Tierra Sur - the best kosher restaurant in California - and we knew we'd need to stay the night; not only was it over an hour from our home, but we knew we'd have plenty of wine as well. To be completely honest, I had very low expectations; but from the time I made my first call just after making the reservation online, all the way through to checkout, I could not have been more pleased.

First, huge kudos to Sara (one of the front-desk managers) for bieng so incredibly friendly and helpful. There had been a bit of a screw up in the reservation I made online, and despite being booked to capacity she was able to make everything fall into place. Beyond that, she made sure we were blocked into a suite on the first floor as she knew we'd be bringing our puppy Couver (who much prefers ground-floor rooms).

The room itself was more than we needed for our one-night visit. It had a full kitchen, and "dining room table" which seated four as you first walked in. Then, to the right was a work station with the typical (yet very comfortable) Four Points office chair.

The entire floor plan was open-concept. Just behind this dining room and mini-office was the living room; it consisted of a couch, two comfy arm-chairs , a coffee table and a fire place. The whole room had a very cabin-like cozy feel to it, which really made the stay enjoyable. It was also great that we had two balconies - one off of the living room, and the other off of the master bedroom.

The bathroom was very standard. Nothing great, nothing terrible - it was exactly what you would expect/see in any other suite at any other Four Points property.

The front desk/welcome area was very nice. Right behind the checkin-in area was their "business center." Admittedly, it was just a few computers, but it seemed to do the trick. Right next to the work station was the bar, which was surrounded by plenty of comfortable seats and couches.

As for the rest of the property... It was fantastic! It had bike rentals, tennis courts and basketball courts; it had a nice sitting area in the lobby, as well as an in-house restaurant (which also featured outdoor seating space); they were enthusiastically dog-friendly, which Couver very much appreciated; it even had benches outside placed right next to doggy-poop disposal bins! Ok, that last part wasn't so appealing, but I couldn't help but notice.

Without a doubt, this is a property I'd return to. Between the warm staff, the great doggy-friendly suite and the great location - it's a five minute walk away from the Ventura Harbor and only a 10 minute drive away from the Herzog winery and Tierra Sur - it's a real winner. I know most people don't think of Four Points properties as a "go-to" place, but this is truly an exception!
